Now a group of sewers is working together to get ahead of this potential shortage.
Organizer Ramona Haro says healthcare workers are now looking for alternatives to N95 masks.
"Something is better than nothing," says Haro. "When people are coming in, whether they are infected or they're not if the healthcare provider is the one that's infected, then they're leaving with it regardless. They have to protect themselves and their families too."
Haro along with a dozen other sewers are teaming up with the business Authorized Vac and Sew to give out sewing kits to make masks.
